Fine wine and good music this evening with a musical wine tasting courtesy of St Woolos Sinfonia and Tom Innes from Fingal Rock in Monmouth. Tom’s shop was flooded so we are particularly grateful to him being able to be here this evening. 🍷

In the days immediately before the Archbishop's Enthronement on Saturday, the public inauguration of her ministry, we focus on three items which will feature in the service. On Wednesday we looked at the Monmouth Archbishop's Bible, yesterday it was the Archbishop's Chair or Throne.

In the three days before the Archbishop's Enthronement on Saturday, we focus on three items which will feature in the service.

First, the Monmouth Archbishop's Bible. This has been used by each of the previous Bishops of Monmouth when making their declaration and oath, and has been signed by them.

Congratulations to 5 musicians from the diocese presented with The Archbishop of Wales Award for Church Music during Evensong in a full cathedral this afternoon. Jenny Newman, Emlyn Powell, Selwyn Morgan, Iris Tunley and Thelma Cantelo, all for long and faithful service in their churches.

This Sunday is our Harvest Festival. We collect food for different projects each week of the year, but at Harvest we give thanks for it all, for the fruits of the earth that enable us to do this, for the generosity which springs from thanksgiving.

Preparations are progressing for Archbishop Cherry’s enthronement in November. Today we took delivery of the Archbishop’s Throne, a gift from the then Archbishop of Canterbury to the Church in Wales in 1920. It stays in the Archbishop’s cathedral for the duration of their archaepiscopate.

The Mothers Union stall at CADW Open Doors today promoting ‘Behind Closed Doors’, support those experiencing domestic abuse. Posters with the phone number will be going up in the Cathedral toilets shortly.

The Cathedral is open all day today for CADW Open Doors. Tower tours will depend on how the weather turns out. Concert at 12noon and the Cathedral choir will sing at 2.30pm.
