Curating curiosity for all since 1887. The Newberry Library is an independent research library located in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood. Cover photo: Oak Street Beach postcard from Curt Teich Postcard Collection.
We made the Sphere! When the Eagles were looking for a backdrop for their Vegas residency, they reached out for images from our Teich Postcard Collection. Our postcards from Winslow, Arizona, and other locations are being displayed during the band's performances of "Take It Easy" through spring.

Thanks to one of our scholars-in-residence and a fellow Erie Canal enthusiast 👇
Glad to see the Newberry Library joining the Bluesky party. If you haven't visited, consider doing so —their exhibits are always worthwhile and they have a world class gift shop.
Now that we're here, how about a post featuring blue sky? A postcard from our John I. Monroe collection, featuring the face of a woman and a man in the clouds with a blue sky around them. #historysky

ICYMI, last month was the 250th anniversary of the Continental Army's capture of Montreal. The campaign ended in defeat amid a snowstorm in Quebec City. "A New map of the province of Quebec," from 1776, published just after the failed invasion. Call number: Novacco 4F 73. #us250 #america250

Re-visiting this early 20th century postcard--and some nearby Chicago hotels--on the busiest travel weekend of the year. From our Curt Teich Postcard Collection. #historysky #chicago @pastpostcard.bsky.social

For Native American Heritage Month, here's Dolores Purdy’s (Caddo Nation of Oklahoma) Speaking to Star Beings. "Our priests would study the night sky and would understand our place in the universe as well as knowing when to plant crops, how to treat others, and other matters of day-to-day living."
