I have been extremely impressed by this #CommvaultShift presentation from @ruchowdh.bsky.social! She has really thought through the AI problem and she nailed this whole talk. I wish it was recorded!

#CommvaultShift Dr. Rumman Chowdhury is on stage and she opens with a little story about Stanislav Petrov. The reason why we are all alive today. And he saved us all on my 5th birthday!

#CommvaultShift I will say one thing about the event so far. The coffee mug gift at check in was brilliant! Now I can carry my coffee around AND keep it warm.

#CommvaultShift I'm happy to see Commvault is pulling together Active Directory, EntraID, and Okta into a single identity management resource. Too many disasters are because people forget that Active Directory is too easy to compromise.

#CommvaultShift It's still wild to me that our backup and recovery software has deep integrations into Microsoft365 and Google Workspace because that's where data lives today. We're not backing up to USB sticks any more.

#CommvaultShift Commvault now has Post-Quantum Cryptography options. If you're not looking to use PQC right now you're going to be behind when it becomes necessary. Better to embrace it now than be forced in the near future.

#CommvaultShift 40 TB/hour restore speeds? That certainly beats my old LTO tapes on BackupExec!

#CommvaultShift When Sanjay's demo had the Slack "knock brush" notification sound I immediately looked at my Slack to see who had messaged me. I wonder who else did?

#CommvaultShift The new Unity interface has GenAI MCP support. So you can just ask Claude to give you an update for all your recent Commvault activty. Beats having Alexa reading IP address tables!

#CommvaultShift Sanjay's Billion Dollar Question: How do you know you are recovering the best, cleanest copy of the data? Persistence and manipulation are key to modern attacks.
November 12, 2025 at 2:45 PM
#CommvaultShift the newest release of Commvault Cloud is now called Unity!

#CommvaultShift Manual processes are evolving to be Agentic AI focused but you have to be able to keep up with the pace of change. Commvault is calling their new approach ResOps - Resiliance Operations.

#CommvaultShift You have to monitor the data the source to know when something has gone wrong. You can't look at the output and infer from there. That means getting under the algorithms.

#CommvaultShift Finally! Someone mentioned technical debt in reference to AI. I don't care how smart the hive mind might be. No project survives technical debt.
November 12, 2025 at 2:37 PM
#CommvaultShift Sanjay Merchandani said global AI spending topped $400 billion in 2024. Wanna bet that number is going to be LOT higher in 2025?
November 12, 2025 at 2:35 PM
#CommvaultShift Okay, I have to admit the intro video is both funny and appropriate. AI is everwhere but it's only as good as the data that it runs on.

I'm in NYC today for #CommvaultShift! I'm going to be talking about some of the cool stuff they're showing off at the keynote around data protection and the new landscape of security.

AI Is Just A Majordomo
Who is AI really for? The creatives? Or the people that want you to create something for them?

This is a great point. I'd bet more people are tapping links instead of clicking them. Also, does this finally get rid of "double click" as a euphemism for going deeper on a topic? Probably not.
