The early (circa 2000) solar-electric drive designs for these Mars mission profiles were also cute, very charmingly unconventional - almost evocative of Age of Sail schooners with their great triangular solar wings.

Very good read - but also good lord, kind of exceptionally spooky. The last days of the Linear Pottery Culture sound like they must have been pretty apocalyptically unpleasant to be around for.
This is an extremely interesting article about the collapse of early farming societies across Europe around ~5000 BC.

We like to think of prehistoric times as being largely peaceful, but it seems early civilisations weren't immune to ritualistic violence & cultural collapse.
Headless bodies hint at why Europe’s first farmers vanished
Wave of mass brutality accompanied the collapse of the first pan-European culture

To the people that think space exploration and monitoring is a waste of money: understanding things happening in space is critical to the safety of our modern world.
A big day for space weather, with the BBC reporting that a Mexico-to-USA flight in October experienced a 'sudden drop in altitude', likely caused by *solar energetic particles* from the Sun. Here is an explanation and some thoughts as a solar astrophysicist (a thread): 1/8

I do think the idea of putting what is effectively the laser driver system of a fusion pulse rocket at the top of a borehole and using it as the powerhouse for god's own drilling rig kind of goes hard, is the thing.

I finished Ambrosia Sky: Act One by @softrains.bsky.social , and I can confirm that I had a great time. 🖖

The lore is interesting, the story is moving, the gameplay is very fun (halfway between a narrative and meditative game, a washing game, and System Shock 😁), and the art direction is fresh.

Transport ship! The drums rotate to provide access to specific containers. Also the big green tubes in the middle are power couplers that provide direct fusion drive power to both the front and back of the ship, allowing for thrusters fore and aft.

No offense, but most leftists and all libs don't know how to deal with them. They don't actually believe in the things they say they do. It's mostly just to signal that they're in their stupid club.
