And it’s so hopeful. At the end of the day bad things happen in this anime but it the narrative cares for its readers in a way that I don’t always see in action anime.

Yes even Mitsuri who I know says she joined looking for a husband but you don’t become a Hashira and invent a breathing style to get married. She’s the Usagi of Demon slayer and no one can change my mind.

The villains are people who discount connection or misuse it. The ones who think that the ways they were hurt mean they should hurt others. Our heroes have bad things happen to them and don’t want them to happen to others.

Tanjiro’s real super powers are making friends, compassion, and tenacity. Like yeah he’s got other powers but what makes him The Guy isn’t that he’s the best swordsman or has a special lineage. Plus you can’t tell me that Rengoku and Mitsuri aren’t also magical girl characters

We do not belong to our past (although I hope we’ll treat it with care and respect).

We do not belong to our future (although I hope we’ll build toward it with hope and joy).

We the Jews are multifaceted— beautiful, broken, and always becoming, generation to generation. But we are not yours.

We do not belong to rabbis who say that our Judaism doesn’t count because of who we love, how we practice, which of our parents (if either) passed our Judaism to us, or how we feel about politics international or domestic.

We do not belong to demographers who claim us when it’s convenient
