Every year on Memorial Day, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.

They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.

France also gave us this land as American soil.

Hey Bluesky geeks! My friends and I just recently got (back) into Magic the Gathering, and we're looking for some people to play commander with at GenCon. The whole event calendar seems tailored to competitive events, and we're looking for some casual bracket 2 play. Anyone have any leads?

A somewhat recent thing (after the invention of cell phones) that I’ll never quite understand is talking on speakerphone in public, especially inside a store or restaurant. Like, seriously?

Managed to set up a personal data server for Bluesky, and the whole process was relatively smooth. Going to write a blog post on how do to all of this in a single location, since I had to pull from several sources, but overall quite painless.

Dangerous realization: my next extra paycheck falls on the first day of GenCon.

Contrary to popular belief, “the selfie” isn’t a 21st century invention. It’s clear that it was deeply rooted in Renaissance culture. #louvre

Also, vibe coding is the surest way to build shitty software that breaks randomly in production. Full stop.

Decided to try out Replit as a potential coding solution on my iPad Pro, only to discover that the paid plan for more compute is way overpriced due to the decision to bake an AI coding assistant into it. I don't need something to "Vibe code" for me. I just want to do some software engineering work.

Why is 7 Brew so desperately trying to bring the Abercrombie concept to coffee shops? When I’m this decaffeinated, the last thing I want is club music, fetid cologne, and overly peppy employees slash models asking me about my day while I wait for a cup of the liquid that turns me back into a human.

My favorite feature of my smart home is how I say “Hey Siri” to tell it to do something, and every device lights up to listen, then they all realize a different device is listening, and all play “not it!”, turning off and leaving me requesting that the lights turn on in the room to nobody.

Thinking that in the next couple weeks, I might actually try standing up a Personal Data Server. The idea of federating social streams in this manner grows more intriguing every time I read about it.

“Hell is empty, and all the devils are here,” is feeling more strangely and depressingly real with each passing day.

It’s pretty hard to see the silver lining in this shitstorm, but we do have one important opportunity.

US America is in dire need of a remedial civics lesson. 🏛️

Let’s get back to basics and shine a light on what’s worth preserving in American systems, norms, and values. 🇺🇸

The sub zero temperatures of my current city today coupled with this slew of depressing executive actions truly is making it feel like hell has frozen over.

I wish I had something positive or uplifting to share.
I don't.
Hatred and ignorance are having success unseen in nearly 100 years.

I will, however, offer you this:

My wife and I watching every episode ever of “Selling <Overpriced City>” on Netflix: “What the hell is she wearing?”

I feel like this entire decade so far can be summarized by the statement: “Elon Musk has no idea what he is talking about.”

Wife and I blitzed through TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, which was the perfect amount of fun and nostalgia. The Arcade version was one of our first dates, and it brought back all the same vibes as it did for us years ago!

Nobody put Baby the rogue in the corner. But the party left him there because he was a sketchy, distant dude who didn't seem interested in going on adventuring so much as brooding darkly under his black cloak and batman mask.

Thinking about running a Call of Cthulhu game for my usual group of D&D5E players. Any recommendations for a good beginner friendly module for both Keepers and Players out there? Looking at some Doors to Darkness material potentially.
