He does! It took him leaving a fancy dress party on a space station through an airlock, walking over the surface of said station without a space suit, and complicated orbital mechanics, but the vampire now has a gun! #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompt #BookSky
It was a tool container, just under two meters long. To a casual observer, it looked like a repair kit lost during work on the surface of the station. There were no orbital cleaning drones like the ones at Tartarus’ shipyards. Here the gravity of the sun would grab it within a pass or two, meaning it would just fall away, eventually turning through physics and fusion into something they could mine. Unless it was launched along a precisely calculated orbit by a top of the line AI as she brought her ship in. This tool chest contained a few things I couldn’t wear on my fancy dress that I would need for this mission. My sword took up most of the length, along with a flechette pistol with two magazines. One was loaded with glass fast-acting neurotoxin darts that would knock out a human, but the other was loaded with silver needles. There was no confirmation that it was vampires behind the production of this blood, but we knew vampires would want it. After all, that was why we were here.

I lost the real world. Instead, I was suddenly seated on a bench, in a lovely garden. A fountain tinkled away before me, and overhead an apple tree shed petals in the clear breeze. The moon was that perfect, correct color no other orbiting rock has had except the one that was above Earth, all those years ago. This garden was a memory torn from my mind. Evadne had brought me here, once, a vacation spot in the bayous of the Mississippi river, near where she was born. She was using her position to get out of the family more and more in those days, and she had pulled me along whenever she wanted company. This might have been the last time we had been able to relax back on Earth. “It can be like this again,” a voice said to me. I turned to where Evadne had sat watching the moon all those centuries ago, but it wasn’t her voice. Instead, a figure in a long, pristine white robe sat there, its hood thrown back. The face was thin, the lips narrow. It was bald, the pale skin shining in the moonlight. It was looking up, its face in profile. “If you surrender, I can bring this back.”

She rubbed it as she studied the scattered papers in front of her. “What does the book say?” I stopped appreciating her appearance and turned to watch the doorway. Evadne would let me know if she needed my help, and I didn’t want anyone to try and sneak up on us. “First, this is technically an incunable. We’ll cover that in a later lesson.” She sighed, and I heard her shifting the papers around. “Second, it is hard to figure out. It is written in Old Church Slavonic, but transliterating something Coptic. It is confusing to figure out.” “But you’ve got it, right?” “Right.” I could hear the small smile in her voice. “I just want you to know that your wife is awesome.”

They say write what you know, and what I know is that clowns are not scary. If you think clowns are scary, your bloodline is weak and you will not survive the winter.

The sound of gunfire rose in intensity before falling silent. A figure fell from the second story, slamming hard into the ground. I set the unconscious clown monster down and ran toward it. “Why are there so many damn clowns? Clowns aren’t scary,” I muttered to myself as I flipped the man over. He was wearing a security uniform with all the modern plates and straps that entailed but thrown over it was a hooded black tabard with the symbol of the cult in the center. My dark vision didn’t have much color distinction, but it looked red. That might have been caused by his throat getting torn out, though.

My favorite horror movie is In The Mouth Of Madness. It is a story about a writer and what it means to create. Kind of. If you squint. But it is very fun, and everyone should watch it at least once. John Carpenter is a genius.

No matter how you cut it, my main character Stephen has to drink blood to live. He tries his best to make it a voluntary action, but if he gets too hungry, the beast in side rises up and he has to feed. All his good works are a struggle to control it
