PS And note the lovely mentions of some earlier artists, as well as the author's signature. The scroll and books at the rat's feet are inscribed with "Blek le rat", "Keith Haring" and "Basquiat". The artist is signed as @el_basuero.

"The unpredictable past of the future: The political potential of utopia" came out last year. It contains the first english translation of "A walk throught the future", a Yugoslavian science fiction children's social utopian novel from 1924/25

In 1913, Germany, flush with a new nation’s patriotic zeal, looked like it might become the dominant nation of Europe and a real rival to that global superpower Great Britain. Then it hit the buzzsaw ...

A weird thing about being online is you’ll get a notification that someone named “feral weirdo” follows you and you’ll go ah good a normal person, and then you’ll get a notification that someone named “Professor Thomas Smith” follows you and you’ll think oh no a weirdo

Whenever you hear someone sneer about scientific research that seems useless to them — “they’re studying the spit of lizards?!” — remind them that’s exactly how we got Ozempic.

This. I was born left-handed, and fortunately at a point in time where it was merely difficult to be left-handed rather than having society trying to beat it out of me.

If I'd been born 20-30 years earlier, I'd still have been left-handed. I would have just had to hide it.
I feel like so many of their "gotcha" moments can be resolved by the good ol Left-Handedness Graph™...and when a reputable chart from 2015 instantly throws a wrench into your demographic study, that's not a great sign

one. shots. PLEASE.
William Goldman tried to write a Princess Bride sequel but simply couldn't: "I desperately want to write it, and I sit there and nothing happens and I get pissed at myself. I got lucky with The Princess Bride the first time, and I'd love to get lucky again."

A caution to all sequel-peddlers.
56. Things I love: one-shot fantasy films

This prompted by the news that there's going to be a Labyrinth sequel. The original was good, among many reasons, because it was a self-contained thing with a beginning and an end! If they try this bollocks with The Princess Bride, I swear to God—
