My husband is a contractor. His company was supposed to get a six month extension on 1 Oct but the shutdown happened. So now that they’re open again, they have to wait for extension approval and have it amended to include the fact funding is only through 31 Jan.

Very sad to be listening to Rosary Across America and hearing people who run the show say they listened to Charlie Kirk. I’m not surprised just continually disappointed in people who call themselves Christian supporting someone who believes in violence…and died by it.

We’ve been thinking about moving and this just adds to the reasons. I so feel for people who don’t have that option. Their children are being thrown to the wolves.

The "Alt NOAA" account is currently spreading misinformation about weather alerts and claiming that cell phone alerts don't exist and you have to have a weather radio. Cell phone alerts absolutely do exist, check your settings to make sure you didn't turn them off.

2. Being a professional means knowing your audience and speaking to them. As a weather nerd, time and again it’s been discussed how poorly NOAA/NWS communicate their warnings and forecasts.

During my internship at the Charleston Museum, I handled slave tags during restoration. I can’t describe the impact it had knowing that I was handling something that a person wore to denote they were the property of another human. The weight of it both physically and symbolically. 1/2
I once handled a medieval manuscript that smelled unusually of horses, which contributed to my discovery that it was a traveling notebook of sorts. Digital surrogates are wonderful but you can miss a lot if you don’t experience the manuscript in person.
Meanwhile I am the weirdo who wants to feel the old paper/vellum. To smell it.
