kind of wish i had a nonsmartphone handheld audio recording device. digital is fine i just need to have like a single button i can press to begin recording. 80% of my reason is making my dreams easier to record in the morning

caught in the awkward position of liking the concept of the game i am working on, and liking the core dice mechanic for it, but also thinking they are poorly suited to one another. i think i want to play with the dice toy more than make that game concept, for the moment, so maybe i'll focus on that

wow okay new annoying problem with this project is just. how do i do focus area templates with character facing on a square grid. this sucks. maybe i either a) shouldn't do facing or b) should switch to hexes. i do kind of dislike hexes but not for a like. legitimate design reason

took this as a sign & brought a lem book with me to playing pretend camp
what Lem doesn't tell you at the end of Solaris is that after Kelvin returns to Earth to try to convince us not to nuke Solaris we do it anyway, but it doesn't seem to do anything, so we start sending people there to dissolve them in the ocean to make it more human and therefore comprehensible.

okay mulling over this a) i don't know if i want to try to invent a totally new way of modeling space for tactical ttrpg combat b) trying to make gridded combat feel dreamlike might be interesting. whether or not it's possible
to put it concisely, dream wizard combat does not belong on a grid. space in dreams is more like a thick emulsified fluid of imagery and associations, and i think a grid (hex *or* square) is antithetical to that.
