I remember when that thing came out on HBO when Ricky Gervais, Louis CK, Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld sat in a room and talked about stand up comedy I was like “hmm. Interesting” and it took me 1 minute to be like “I hate this, I hate these guys and I hate stand up comedy”

It’s wild that Washington and Oregon briefly had Senators who both looked like each other (Brock Adams and Bob Packwood) and were prolific sexual abusers of women. Interesting fact: Brock Adams was succeeded as Transportation Secretary in the Carter admin by another PNW sex abuser, Neil Goldschmidt.

Interesting that the NYT reporter protesting the idea that the Times’ coverage of Epstein was extremely insufficient used a story from 2019 to defend the paper, which came out after Landon Thomas was canned. What happened before then?

I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

My parents named me after Neil Young and I think it’s great they picked someone who hasn’t turned into an embarrassment. Happy 8-0, Shakey. Zuma, On The Beach, and Live Rust got me through a very dark time in college.

Much early 20th Century militant unionism was based around community-building among workers and their families, with union halls holding events, weddings, funerals, etc. There was a lot of hope and positivity even in the face of suppression and violence by those aligned with the status quo.
This point absolutely correct and I will add that Mamdani demonstrates that an insurgency, even one with real moral clarity and anger at the status quo, can still be cheerful and inviting.
