On a smaller point: do these people ever actually read Tolkien?

The whole point of the LoTR is that power corrupts; that no one can be trusted with the ring except the little people who want to destroy it; & that it's "the pity of Bilbo", not "the hard men of Gondor", that saves Middle Earth.

I think I'll end up getting this set too. They aren't as familiar to me - I hadn't heard of Rosalind Ashe or Hilda Lewis (or of Gertrude Barrows Bennett in the first set).

They are a bit. They look lovely and are nice to hold and to read, but they don‘t have any intro or notes, and at least two are incomplete (only 5 out of 10 stories are included in The King in Yellow; only 5 out of 6 John Silence stories).

this really does feel like an existential problem for democracies across the world actually - how do you tell people "no actually you do just have to trust us on basically most things, please stop googling stuff and thinking you know better than us, you dingbats" and get them to actually listen?
