We have a deal!

A year after his famous report, Mario #Draghi takes stock: "Europe is in a harder place. Inaction is threatening our sovereignty".

He rings the alarm bell: limited reforms have been agreed/launched, investment has decreased, and dependencies come at a high price.

The Commission is putting €2 trillion on the table!

An unprecedented investment plan for Europe, with €700 billion dedicated to the net-zero transition across the #EUBudget.

A genuine effort to stay in the industrial race with China and to build net-zero value chains in Europe.

Finally! The debate can start on the conditions for reaching a 90% climate target.

A deal needs to combine industrial policy, investment and the target to bring all countries on board, including France.

President Macron confirms that France favours decoupling the 2035 and 2040 climate targets, as "2040 would not be needed for COP30".

I think it is time for the Commission to come out with its proposals to allow a real negotiation on the enabling conditions for a 90%. #EUCO

Continuing the transition will shield our economy from external geopolitical pressures and price volatility.

The next step is the -90% climate target for 2040.

Today, the European Commission releases its assessment of national decarbonisation plans.

Results? Decarbonisation efforts are not derailing; quite the opposite, governments understand that they are a collective move to make the EU safer. #NECP

One graph is enough to show who is leading the new industrial race.

China is on the path to energy independence by electrifying its economy quickly, while in Europe, electrification stagnates.

This not only makes the Chinese economy more resilient, but it also boosts its leadership in #cleantech.

May 7, 2025 at 11:22 AM

The Commission released its plan and has decided to cut off our energy ties with the Kremlin. This is good news for Europe's security.

Ending Russian fossil fuel imports by 2027 is not only achievable, but has the potential to reduce Europeans' reliance on gas in the long term. #REPowerEU
May 6, 2025 at 1:54 PM
Today, the Commission will publish the #REPowerEU roadmap. The net-zero transition is the best energy security plan we have as Europeans.

It can completely cut Russian gas imports by 2027 while avoiding to massively increase reliance on US liquified natural gas.

A no-regret option.
May 6, 2025 at 6:05 AM
Did you know? Between 2023 and 2024, in the middle of the war in Ukraine, Europeans increased their imports of liquefied natural gas from Russia.

Tomorrow, the Commission plans to publish a plan to end this dependence. #REPowerEU

Will it turn this into a strategy for moving away from gas?
May 5, 2025 at 6:51 AM

The net-zero transition is a better independence strategy than returning to pre-war energy relations with the Kremlin or importing more LNG from the Trump administration. After 2035, no need for LNG.

I hope the @ec.europa.eu will send this clear signal next week when publishing the REPowerEU 2.
April 28, 2025 at 3:41 PM
By maintaining the pace of its net-zero transition, Europe can end its dependence on Russian gas by 2027 without increasing its dependence on the United States.

In other words, there is no need to reopen Nord Stream 2 or to invest in LNG infrastructures/ new long-term contracts.
April 28, 2025 at 3:41 PM
Cheap gas does not exist: it has a political, economic, and security cost for Europeans (and Ukrainians).

Although pipeline gas imported from Russia has sharply declined since the war in Ukraine, we are still importing Russian gas in the form of LNG. France is the first EU importer.

Combining European preference and sustainability standards can be a powerful industrial tool that secures the EU strategic industries, create jobs, and incentivise innovation.
April 2, 2025 at 5:59 AM
Europeans may not be able to beat Chinese on price, but they can certainly on sustainability and circularity.

A battery made in Europe might be 32% more expensive than one made in China, but it is also 37% less carbon-intensive. Well-designed standards can turn this into a competitive advantage.

« When it comes to building net zero industries in Europe, the relaxation of state aid is a mistake. Member States will invest in their own national industries rather than supporting EU value chains. We need European solutions » says K. Bolesta.
