In 1999, a woman named Jessica Gonzales sought and obtained an order of protection against her physically abusive husband ("AH"), who had repeatedly threatened to kill her and their three children. The order included language specifically limiting when and where AH was allowed to see the children.

the framing on this Mamdani veteran's day thing by some reporters is wild, they're like "oh so you're boycotting parades, is this the first parade you're boycotting" and he's like "I decided to serve actual veterans & sit down with them to see what they're dealing with" & they're like "but parades?"

“You can’t be mad at Democrats for not fighting because they’re the only thing we have to fight fascism” is an interesting political philosophy that I would like to unpack, not in the sense of giving it further examination, but in the sense of throwing it out the back window.

hiiiii politico I know you're new to this and not to brag but I've been reading the news for quite a while now so I wanted to let you know that when somebody is serving a prison term for crimes they have been found guilty of you actually no longer have to say that they are merely "alleged"

So bsky T&S will only discuss suspension decisions after they "hit that threshold" of media requests. Well they for sure have at least 3 of said requests, including a person they suspended & *The Post Aaron Is Replying To* but apparently that's not the threshold? So journalists keep asking i guess 🤷🏾‍♂️
We usually do that in response to media requests once they hit that threshold. I’ll try not to weigh in here, since that’s still details of an individual case. An interesting topic for a separate write up though, without discussing case specifics.

I wrote a column about this last year, but if you genuinely care about the corrections part of corrections, gouging inmates' families on phone calls is one of the stupidest things you can do.

If you want to punish and kill hope, it's one of the best.

A small, but important tidbit I found while reporting the story is that the staffing at Illinois' VA hospitals has declined by more than 500 people between Dec. 31, 2024 and Sept. 30, 2025. I learned this after filing a FOIA with the VA to obtain employee records.

We aren’t making enough of a deal out ot Apple canceling Matthew Heineman’s THE SAVANT, starring Jessica Chastain. They deemed a story about those bravely fighting extremism insensitive/inappropriate after Kirk’s killing & we all should be a bit more alarmed & offended by this. >>

Arresting us is not protecting us, @govpritzker.illinois.gov.
Just yesterday @govpritzker.illinois.gov was confronted by an alder saying "the State Police are arresting protesters."

Gov responded “They’re protecting our protesters"

He needs to start taking real action to protect his people if he wants to keep the incredible goodwill granted by his rhetoric.
Officials have revealed little about what led to the arrests. State Police haven’t fulfilled records requests for incident reports. Court records don’t include many details & few of the protesters arrested have appeared in court.

I’d be really interested in hearing what that threshold is. Bluesky hasn’t responded to the last three emails I’ve sent in recent months asking about various topics, including today’s email about Sarah Kendzior.

🚨Deadloch heads: S2 of the Aussie crime satire/drama (it's good!) arrives on Amazon Prime March 20. Many chaotic Aussie weirdos return/debut. But HEADS UP they have added a Hemsworth (Luke)! This is not a drill! Kudos to the hair & costume team for this whole deal. www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/st...

I almost never comment on mod decisions bc quick-turn analysis is not my ministry. But bc I posted about Sarah Kendzior's suspension—last night by asking how to learn if it was in error, today by saying I find it baffling—people are ascribing positions to me that I haven't taken. To clarify:

re: Kendzior's suspension & Bluesky's moderation tooling:

If I HAD to use tools that I KNEW could/would lead to bad outcomes, I'd take the time to add an explanation for people being banned/suspended about exactly WHY they were banned/suspended. Bsky not doing this suggests lack of care.
