Last night after the Dayton Phil concert of Joel Thompson’s amazing, beautiful, tragic, heartbreaking “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed” we had a post-concert panel with about 150 folks who stayed. The subject of music’s power came up, and Sam Dorf (to my left) said music can’t pass legislation…

…Sierra Leone (to Sam’s left) replied that's exactly what music did in the Civil Rights Era. And I immediately thought, “What if, during the Orange One’s address to Congress, the Dems didn’t shout or hold up signs, but started to sing? We Shall Overcome, The Battle Hymn of the Republic?” If only!
