Isles now have the best record in the East in the last 25 games (15 wins, 14 ROW), and have taken down the top two in the West in dramatic fashion, while limiting TBL to one goal in 120 minutes in the past five days.

This is remarkable, below.

Also the only team to hold Lightning to a single goal in TBL's last 20 games.

And the only team with 40+ SOGs or 6 goals vs COL this season.
December 5, 2025 at 3:51 PM
Isles have taken 46 SOGs against Aves while in the lead.

No one else in the NHL has 20 so far this season.

Isles now have the best record in the East for each team's last 20 games played.

Isles played 12 of the 20 on the road.

In their four 2nd-of-B2B games, they gained eight points, allowing a total of three goals at WSH, at NYR, at UTA, and vs SEA.

There's no way Binnington is getting to the puck before it hits Faulk's skate. Such a crazy bounce.

The reason he spins and *almost* gets close to the puck after bounce is DUE TO the interference.

I think it is goalie interference by the spirit of the rule, but we've seen goals like this count.

Despite the back-to-back Schaefer is top-10 for TOI the past two games.

He's also outscored MTL the past two games, for what it's worth. (I added this for Twitter War I, but I'll leave it in.)

Using January 1st of rookie season as the "teenage" cutoff, Schaefer is one power play goal away from joining top-10 for PPGs among teenage rookie defensemen since 1960.

Five NHL defensemen have multiple power play goals.

One has multiple multiple power play goals.

Updated spaghetti chart:

NJD goal differential after 60 minutes past 8 games:
-4, -3, 3, -3, 0, 0, 0, 0.

PIT falling back to Earth.

NYI, CAR, WSH solidly positive lately. PHI very average.

NYR climbing out of trouble, CBJ taking their place?

Less speed/charging, but this is the same type of hit that ruined Kenny Jonsson's career.

No need to launch upwards along the boards with elbow raised to the head when the opponent's torso is low.

If the NHL won't suspend on a play like this, what are they even doing?

Hurricanes remain undefeated against Metro foes, while Isles are 4-2 vs last season's top-5 Metro teams, looking at purely wins-losses.

Rangers are 1-1 vs Pens, 0-3 vs other Metro teams. Outscored 12-0 at home in the losses to Pens, Caps, Canes, and Isles.

The 18-year-old is now tied for 2nd in power play points among defensemen.
November 11, 2025 at 6:09 AM
Makar, QHughes, Gostisbehere, and Heiskanen are the most notable defensemen for drawing penalties without taking many of their own, in recent seasons.

I don't think Schaefer keeps up pace for +49 this season, but +20 is possible.

Keep in mind Makar was 22 for his 1st big jump, #70-#85 games here.

Here are penalties drawn among the top 15 point-scoring defensemen for this season and 2024-25.

Schaefer already has drawn more than 7 of the 15 did last season.

Only Makar has a season 25+ and 15+ differential since 2008. Schaefer is 10, 8 right now. (Took 2 penalties.)

Metro waffle chart update:

WSH slip, with only 3 pts in past 6 games. They have lost 4 in a row with Lindgren in goal, including SOL to BUF.

NJD and CAR not as dominant as first couple weeks.

NYR took 6 of 8 pts at CGY (L), VAN (W), EDM (OTW), SEA (OTW) before losing to CAR.

Here is Metro Division the last 10 games for goal differential, broken down by EV, PP, SH.

PIT, CAR, WSH, and NYI strong at EV, in terms of goals.

PIT and NJD strong special teams differential.

NYR struggling across the board.

Here is a spaghetti chart, to track 10-game rolling goal differential, as the season goes on, for Metro teams.

PIT + NJD are off to hot starts.

NYI and NYR each -4 after 10 games, but have swung in different directions since then, CBJ and PHI falling.

Only seven NHL defensemen have finished a season with >20 penalties drawn and >10 differential since 2007-08.

Only one has >25, >15.

Schaefer is 9, 7 after 13 games as an 18-year-old rookie.

Isles picked up their first two divisional wins over the weekend.

NYI are the first Metro team to defeat one of the top two from last season, as they leaned on Sorokin in victory over the Capitals.

Hurricanes still undefeated vs Metro foes, with wins over Devils, Isles, and Flyers.
