From binding to regulation: crystal-clear paper on which features better predict regulatory binding sites. Surprisingly, location of the binding site within the gene (promoter/terminator/...) is a very bad predictor, which I didn't expect!

Excited to see this out!! In this thought-provoking review led by @davidperis.bsky.social and Ricardo Pérez-de la Fuente we further demonstrate that insect #pollination was once widespread among #gymnosperms and existed long before the origin of #angiosperms

A collection of bee orchids I’ve encountered. Bee orchids mimic the look and smell of female insects to trick male insects into trying to mate with them: thrusting against the flowers, the male insects pick up and deliver pollen without reward (a process known as pseudocopulation).

Great work from @tank-silvia.bsky.social and others, showing that the mysterious SPL/NZZ gene interacts with floral MADS proteins to regulate female germ cell formation - combining coIP, ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq and beautiful confocal stacks!
🧪 I know it sounds like a cliché but I am TRULY AND UTTERLY THRILLED that this work from my postdoc at #unimi is out. SPL/NZZ is a very important gene (it initiates sporogenesis) but a very mysterious one. 🧵
