Join us tonight to honor the pedestrian who was killed on Morgan Avenue this past Wednesday, and to demand the city finally make Morgan safe.

We were on Morgan Ave in Bushwick to observe and document the issues that make it difficult to walk and bike on the street. We sent a letter to @nycdot.bsky.social to demand safety in the street.

Call your council member and tell them to vote NO on Intros 103 and 104. These bills will make it harder to transform our streets to make them safer. Find your rep here: www.mygovnyc.org

One of the things we’re counting on the street today is the big number of concrete spills that make the painted bike lane dangerous and unusable. This cyclist is forced to ride in traffic vs navigating the concrete. We need a protected bike lane on Morgan Ave.

We also counted copious concrete spills on nearly every block, which disorient cyclists biking down Morgan and represent a huge repair expense for taxpayers. This cement was (ominously) spilled right on top of the icon of a cyclist here at Grand Ave.

At today’s street safety walkthrough of Morgan Ave we did a bollard census to see whose safety counts most. We asked “if the painted #bikeNYC lane is safe, why do all the sidewalk trees and hydrants have steel bollards?” #makemorgansafe

Daylighting is something NYers are asking for too — with over 19 community boards representing nearly 3M people now having passed resolutions supporting universal daylighting. @nycmayor.bsky.social and @nycdot.bsky.social should join Paris and CA and make NYC a world leader on this issue.
