Minor amendment: The regex in the automod screenshot technically only blocks user pings. Blocking both user and role pings would look like <@[!&]?\d{10,}>

The next question was how to prevent members from pinging non-staff into threads. Fortunately, Discord's native automod performs an admiral job here. Blacklist user and role pings, whitelist all channels but the contact staff channel, and whitelist staff role and member pings

First, I created a contact staff channel where members can't send message, but they CAN create and send messages in private threads. I included instructions on how to make threads in the embed, along with a hyperlink to Discord's thread support page
