A White-tailed tropicbird (Phaethon lepturus) chick about to fledge on Cousin Island. Chicks are abandoned by their parents when they become heavier than them (up to 20% heavier at 70-85 days). They lose weight until they're ready to fly, then spend years at sea before returning to breed #birds

Its Hawksbill Turtle nesting season on Cousin Island in #Seychelles (October-March), so for our first post on @bsky.app we are sharing this photo of a Hawksbill leaving the island after nesting! Fun fact: Hawksbills here nest during the day, peculiar to Seychelles and the Western Indian Ocean.
