Don't worry about balancing your encounters. If the players get overwhelmed, they don't have to auto lose/die.
Use common tropes:
Let them be captured.
Recoup health & replan while enemy regroups.
Something happens, allowing PCs to escape battered & beaten.
Be flexible.
