cannot emphasize enough how every early Astronaut was a drunk-ass hotshot test pilot swearing and being inappropriate at all times. The modern Astronaut archetype of "a nerdy Starfleet science officer" was predated by "a drunk guy who is REALLY good at flying VERY fast planes in a dangerous manner"

"not assuming" becomes "everybody is they/them" which doesn't seem helpful
It feels weirdly invalidating when used in a targeted way (surprise! you actually did assume!), and when used for EVERYONE kinda seems like non-binary erasure; removing meaning from pronouns thru genericization

hot take: I think we should go back to assuming peoples pronouns. if we get it wrong, we should be corrected, say "thank you for correcting me", and not get it wrong again.

This is a Sony Anycast Station AWS-G500HD from 2007. It's essentially a Sony luggable PIII 933Mhz PC that runs Linux 2.4.20 with a ton of FPGAs to do the heavy lifting of a video switcher. Plus glorious physical buttons, faders, dials, and removable keyboard. And a jog wheel.
