Trump's Big Beautiful Bill did slash funds for SNAP benefits, but did not eliminate them. There are still funds available for SNAP benefits right now, despite the government shutdown.

Beautiful canyon in any season. Lots of fun to float the 18-miles Ellensburg to Rosa Reservoir.
Yakima River Canyon in August 2025, taken from a kayak. The River is gentle, and makes for a great float trip. Steep, dry slopes, blue sky with puffy white clouds, and green trees next to the river.

Bear Gulch Fire near Lake Cushman, WA. Photo from 45 miles away in Steilacoom, WA. The fire is now at 16,000 acres, burning in the wet Olympic Mountains which don't normally burn in large, raging, extremely hot fires. US Forest Service no longer has enough resources to fight fires.
Huge plume of smoke from the Bear Gulch Fire turns pink at sunset. Puget Sound and McNeil Island are in the foreground. WA State Dept of Corrections Special Commitment Center for sexually violent prisoners is located on the island. Trump has a reservation there.
