Teenage Jody in an Oklahoma ice storm, 1978.

Putting the finishing touches on Jody & Diana’s quantum-displaced misadventures.

Here’s the cover for my official Twilight Zone story, coming in issue 4– out from IDW on February 4, 2026! I’m just over halfway done with the art for the issue, and it’s coming together really nicely.

Please place orders with your local comics shop by December 15th & spread the word— thank you!

One more Illyana commission for shadow season!

Sketch cover for Magik issue 1.

Love cultivated from the depths. Secretive, moody, self-isolating. I had no idea Diana would evolve into the character she revealed herself to be— one of the many joys of long-form storytelling.🖤

New commission: Ursula vs. Stingray! I immediately saw this moving in a Jawsy direction.

Despite its minimalism, this was the most challenging piece to execute— but I really enjoyed needing to think in an even more painterly way.

My color palette for the cover of DIANA, which you’ll get to see soon enough. It’s a banger.

Good hair alert.

While we’re at it: from my 2018 comics essay “About Face,” laying out the normalization of fascist presence via pop culture & consumer goods. It’s also the central chapter of SAVE IT FOR LATER. popula.com/2019/02/24/a...

Even more relevant today than when this scene was drawn in 2019– losing the living memories of those who survived the Holocaust & participated in the civil rights movement is directly related to all this bullshit.

Well, it’s time to ink & paint this *official* Twilight Zone story— it’s been very challenging but fun to write.

So much respect for creators who mostly work on single-issue stories & serialized monthly issues— I’m learning a lot along the way!

A new Magik commission for shadow season!

I’d happily draw Illyana every day (*cough cough*, would love to draw a deeply psychological miniseries about trust and connection in her life).

Iron Giant commission! This was a joy to make, conjuring vivid memories of many New England autumns in my young adulthood. 🍂

Excellent turnout here in Bloomington— definitely the biggest we’ve had in the past five years. All four corners of the square were fortified with people as well— I’d estimate about 2,000 people!

Here’s a great new piece on the resurgent interest in my 90’s hometown buds Everyone Asked About You— and it’s absolutely buck wild to find Soophie Nun Squad mentioned in Rolling Stone! 😵 www.rollingstone.com/music/music-...

All set up at A2CAF at the Ann Arbor District Library until 5pm— come say hi and get some books!

New batch of commissioned illustrations ready to send out!

I have 3 more to finish in this round, and have had a total blast doing these— I’ll open up more commissions early next year. Special thanks to the people requesting X-Men characters.

I finally hit the limit and cancelled my long-running WaPo subscription. I’ve done two opinion pieces and a full-length book review for em. But they’ve really shit the bed with their overt rightward embrace & outright purging of left-leaning and Black voices in their opinion & analysis.

Tonight I’ll be doing a live comics reading from my book FALL THROUGH as part of a benefit for @bamfzinefest.bsky.social — it’s at the Orbit Room (107 N. College, Bloomington) from 6-8pm with several other writers of all kinds. See you there!
