Here I sit above the coastal plain with a lack of desire to go back into the den.

If I zoom in even further you can see a nearby abandoned open cut gold mine which is ‘just the other side’ of the agricultural zone at Bullfinch.

I was wondering why the tarmac I drove on yesterday was so wide and well made. There’s the answer!

If I zoom in a bit the differentiation between wheatbelt farming and the bush is a little more apparent.

It also demonstrates how important the numerous granite outcrops were for collecting water and navigation in colonial times.

There are three towns named after the rock in this image alone.

For those not so familiar with Western Australia, there is a notional and physical boundary between the south west agriculture area and the north/east pastoral/outback/mining areas.

I am pretty close to the north eastern ‘boundary’ which you can see from the satellite image.

Well I just couldn’t stop myself. A whimsical detour to Baladjie Nature Reserve which contains one of our typical granite outcrops which creat their own ecosystem.

In Coolgardie for lunch. This place is a perfect demonstration of rags to riches to rags of mining when there’s none left

Bummer! My favourite back track to Perth is closed. Booo…
I will have to go the long way and my followers don’t get to see more of special WA not so well known.

Feeling strangely sad about this trip ending soon. Great to be back on home turf with endless woodlands and granite outcrops.

A bit like our Royal Flying Doctor Service in Oz that uses major highways as airstrips. I have a family friend who is a pilot for them.

Sorry about the lack of detail but I took advantage of a tail wind and my extra 21/2 hrs I got back crossing the border.

Closing the loop.
