One of the concepts I focused
on in a recent presidency piece was political violence. My co-authors disagreed with this decision. I believe excluding this topic is a mistake.

This is HUGE.

For those wondering why due process is essential for EVERYONE. This is why!
Cato has published my comprehensive review of the ~240 Venezuelans the US government renditioned 2 months ago to Salvador’s notorious prison. We identified FIFTY who came legally, never violated any immigration law, but are imprisoned at the US government’s request and at US taxpayer expense.

The arguments against birthright citizenship aren't credible exercises of intellectual exploration; they are anti-constitutional themselves.

The purpose of the Citizenship Clause was to end the debate. Entertaining anything other than citizenship by native birth is an attack on the 14th Amendment.

Black women now have the highest increases in unemployment. Allys paying lip service to inclusion should interrogate themselves. Your language, monitoring, and bad faith attacks on our competence contribute to these outcomes. I am experiencing this shift and backlash in real time.
Despite Strong Job Gains in May, Black Women’s Unemployment Rate Jumps Nearly a Full Percentage Point - National Women's Law Center
The overall unemployment rate masks higher rates for Black and Latina women, disabled women, and other groups.

"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging."

Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.

I wrote about my decision in TIME.

A historic moment as we witness the first American leading the Catholic Church.

Hailing from Chicago, Pope Leo XIV ushers in a new chapter that I join those in our state welcoming in at a time when we need compassion, unity, and peace.

Federal workers SAVE the government money, that’s why firing them is COSTING the government money. This isn’t difficult.

At some point we should have the conversation about white liberals and allies not being who they thought they were.

If this doesn’t apply to you keep up the good fight. If you’re busy setting traps, and demonizing marginalized people sit this one out.

U.S. authoritarianism through the lens of political scientists. In a discipline full of Susan Collins many political scientists are concerned. However, some are deeply troubled, while others are doing the electric boogaloo.
Hundreds of scholars say U.S. is swiftly heading toward authoritarianism
Most — but not all — political scientists are deeply troubled by the president's attempts to expand executive power, according to a national survey.

Either the courts get to decide who is a “violent criminal” or “gang member”, or Donald Trump gets to decide.

That choice determines whether we are a Republic governed by laws or an autocracy living under a ruler.

I see it. I have lived it. 83 years ago, the U.S. government turned upon a group of its own citizens and residents and sent them to internment camps without due process. I was there among them. American fascism is back. It is here. It is now.
