No need to be sorry :) yes, that is my understanding as well. On the Southern, the cupolas were in the middle, not the end, although I think there were some really old ones that had a cupola at the end but still, not like this one.

Nice! I don't know how long ago it was when your Dad had the n scale but they have come a long way with it in the last 20 years or so. I have no problems with derailments or uncouplings. And the sound and detail are almost as good as the bigger scales now. Thanks for watching James! :)
