And before you get it twisted there is nothing more American than calling out her ills & demanding that she lives up to her creed. As Dunbar said, I too am America but now that her missteps are visible abroad & at home, we can't ignore it.

And maybe that is the the point. We believed our own hype & couldn't really see ourselves. When others called out our sins, we ignored them or didn't believe them. Not us? We are the shining city on hill. But are we?

Also, I spoke w/a friend yesterday & reiterated that Maga was birthed out of the Tea Party. When McCain selected Sarah Palin as his running mate, he legitimized this "I can say anything nonsensical and get elected" movement. And now here we are. We've become what we've been taught to fight against.

Can we achieve MLK's vision without first understanding Nat Turner's?

I wonder if we had been more definitive in the after math of the Civil War in dealing w/the successionists if we would be in a better place now. To often we sweep misdeeds under the rug for "peace," not understanding that peace w/o penance & remorse is just leaving a problem for another generation.

I do want to know what phrase conveys "I don't condone Oct 7 but also do not condone the erasure of a people. I want a world in which people can love and worship without getting killed. I believe that every genocide is wrong. Call it crusades, extremist, Jihad, terrorism - but it is all wrong."
