Finally got up to tour the UT Herbarium with my friend Django. These historic herbarium collections blew me away. AND we were able to pull the Lactarius purpureoechinacous Type and Django will be sequencing it for reference for the FunDiS Southeast Rare Fungi Challenge!! Answers soon!!!

Meet Merismodes fasciculata. This odd little basidiomycete was originally described by botanist and mycologist Lewis David de Schweinitz in 1832 from New York. This crunchy looking brown mass isn't very impressive when all dried up, but easily rehydrates to become these stunning little cups!
