(5 years ago we tried to go on our first tour)

We've gotta stop doing things like $35 adv/$40 dos or even $12/$15 bc the fees end up making buying your ticket online in advance like 20% MORE than just buying at the door 😭

(I say this as I'm about to announce shows that way -- it's just industry standard but we gotta look at the fan side of it)

What books best capture your current obsession/work?

These are mine; currently putting all of these in conversation with each other!

Really hate that the options for artists are becoming either A) cultivate your audience on platforms that store, sell, & use your data to train AI or B) not be on socials at all

Like yes, email lists and blogs and such are great but there's just no way they provide the same reach and growth as SM

the way holding space for the lyrics of defying gravity has a tighter grip on me than Kylie singing "rise and shine" did needs to be studied

Juggling three careers at once is basically like living the three drink theory: one to hydrate (day job to pay the bills), one to take the edge off (touring musician), and one to put the edge back on (grad school).

I started up a Substack to have a place to share future writing on the intersections of politics, religion, history, and queer theory. There will also be music-related writing and book reviews, so to get myself started, I just posted a review of @jasonkirk.fyi's novel Hell Is a World Without You!

One thing I'm really looking forward to after I graduate is being able to go to all my friends' shows and events again 😔 moved in 2019, had one summer in the city, then COVID, then grad school. I've been a studious little hermit for so long

I’d like to propose: Schrödinger’s Date.

It’s simultaneously a date and not a date but you’ll never know which until the future.

At some point, something will happen and it will be clear which it was. But right now, it’s full of the possibility of both/either.

I'm currently working on my MA Thesis, an interdisciplinary effort that uses methodologies borrowed from queer studies (Sedgwick, Muñoz) to unpack identity-forming practices within the Evangelical Right.

I chose today to set up my account here while I'm supposed to be writing my thesis, and my recommended feed is already full of writers talking about not writing, so I think I'm in good company

I was pretty active on that other platform for a decade, and it carried remnants of my life all the way back to high school. Now that we're here, I'm starting fresh and focusing more on professional connections.
