Thanksgiving in Mauritania a few years later, I gathered with eight or nine PCVs and a pair of embassy folks in search of adventure. We roasted a pea hen, and a baker on the team made pie. We drank ourselves stupid on smuggled Senegalese gin, and the embassy folks dropped $50 to make it happen.

It obviously has changed since there are presumably enlisted men who have been ordered to carry out murders on the high seas in the Caribbean and elsewhere. Those orders had to have come from the officers above them.

Stop calling it an “illegal war.” That legitimizes it. There’s a gray area between legality and illegality when it comes to war that’s the subject of legitimate debate. They’re extrajudicial executions. AKA murder. Same thing Duarte did.

The New York Times article makes it sound like the fact the Sup Ct is taking this case is a bad thing for voting rights, when it's the exact opposite.
