By day, mild-mannered museum person; by night, an insatiable reader, tentative gardener, explorer of old places, top-notch daydreamer.
For work purposes, you can find me here: https://collettconsultancy.co.uk/
For anything else, try the allotment.
Spent Monday evening with Sandi Toksvig...and several hundred other people too. So good, so funny, so human.
Gutted not to win a Toksvig Masculinity t-shirt though.

That was a roller coaster 30 minutes of screen refreshing, shouting at the screen refreshing and general wailing, but I have them in the palm of my hot little inbox...Super Furry Animal tickets! TICKETS!

I am being watched...
What's the rhyme? One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a literary agent to pick up your manuscript.

A visit to Dove Cottage at Grasmere last week, an example of a writers house done right. Massively impressed, as was my non-poetry-interested husband. Atmospheric not stagey, thoughtful not staid.

Every once in a while, the moons align, the stars form the pattern and the gods smile nicely on my mango destoning game...

If I can grow nothing else on this planet, I can grow rosemary so big, it will blot out the skies* and attract all the bees.

*won't actually blot out the skies. But over a metre high is still impressive

Clever, thoughtful, representative interpretation at #Avoncroft and the launch of their new Showman's Wagon exhibition. With New Stories New Audiences funding from #AIM and well chosen project partners, Steven and the team have created something rather wonderful.

National Snowdrop Day. It would be rude not to.

M&S playing the role of Needy Boyfriend: but was I *remarkable*?
Me: you were...adequate
M&S: sobbing
Me: look, it was just a packet of Percy Pigs and some new pants! You're putting too much pressure on this
M&S: I need you to LOVE me! LOOOOOVE MEEE!!

It's the kind of day where Viking longships should appear around the river bend, big black hounds should pad silently through trees and, listening carefully, you should hear the eldritch cries of a thousand men cackling into the frozen air: "what day is bin day??"

Candles are lit, goose has been eaten and the Old Fashioneds are flowing freely. Merry Christmas!

Every year, my v good friend and I go and check that the very best mince pies are to be found in #Malvern. I'm pleased to report that yes, yes, they are still the very best #mincepies, and yes, they are still in Malvern. Small but mighty!

Gods, I love train travel. Would never have seen this view from the car. Mainly because they don't let cars on the viaduct.

Wee Mabes and the tree. She is queen and commandress of all she surveys.*

The tree is here! As yet undecorated as Arsenal are about to play so I'm going to remove myself from the taut atmosphere of hope, recrimination, despair and, possibly, mild jubilation. I have Old Fashioneds to drink while Charlie Brown does Christmas.

Loving the humour, the creativity and the eclectic nature of the redisplayed #BMAG galleries. Particularly the part about the eternal hell cycle of roadworks. #Birmingham

A visit to the marvellous Atchin Tan #exhibition at @museumsworcs.bsky.social yesterday. Can't rate it highly enough. Go see! For some daft reason, it's only on till 5th Jan, which is No Time.

I feel @pittriversmuseum.bsky.social have met all my decorating dilemmas head on this year. Tree, wreath, cake, mantle...I'll take 20 yetis please.

A brief stop at Newstead Abbey last week, to break a tedious motorway journey. Partly moved to by third-hand tales of eerie happenings and partly because motorway services are dispiriting at best. Saw nothing spooky, just glorious gardens and autumn light. It was a good travel decision.

Snow has been sliding off the roof with great whooshing sounds all morning, so before it all melts and I'm sad again, here is what the first proper snowfall in 2 years looked like...
