I am going to be nit-picky here. Pope Francis was the first American Pope, he was the first Argentinian Pope. Argentina is in South America hence first American Pope. Pope Leo is the 2nd American Pope, and the first Pope from the US. I wish mainstream media was able to make this distinction.
