Sold your PC instead of GIVING IT TO ME FOR FREE

Was certainly a choice

The gabecube is a nice idea.

For me, though, I think I need something like this rumoured PS6 handheld or Deck 2.

I spend way less time in front of the TV these days, but for those that can it's perfect!

I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that last year's project still hasn't been delivered.

Not to blow smoke up Eryk's butt, but his is the only MM24 project I backed that's turned up.

But this circles back to the first point - should you mark a game down for using AI in the way they have?

I have no idea, but Eurogamer feel justified in the decision.

(And no doubt it's driven discussion)
November 12, 2025 at 9:11 PM
Is it slop? Or are we just unhappy that the game has been given a 2/5? The review is pretty reasonable, the only issue is how much you think their stance on the use of GENAI should impact the score.

And yeah, after Eurogamer was acquired the quality has gone downhill, no doubt about it.

No different to clickbait thumbnails.

Algorithms (and us) are being trained to click on hyperbole
November 12, 2025 at 8:48 AM
They're slop because attention spans are in the toilet, and Google's SEO practices mean you need to generate things like Guides and keyword-dense articles just to gain any traction.

Now we have AI built into the search engines, ad revenue going down, it's even worse.

I don't know the answer to all this

But i know id rather see a well funded press, doing thoughtful work (arguable if that's what this is) that drives discussion, not views
November 11, 2025 at 11:23 PM
Depends what "honesty" is and what a review is supposed to do, I guess?

Is it "is this game good?" and nothing else? Maybe, idk

I've not played it, got no skin in the game, but i do find it interesting that we default to "bad review = agenda"
November 11, 2025 at 11:19 PM
Yeah, perhaps. Ultimately I think it's a shame people will dismiss this as "hating on a popular game."

The press has taken an absolute hammering, and it feels like trust is at an all time low (not just in games) - but if all we're left with is influencers (most of whom are paid...) we're screwed

Public sector pensions are mad, I'm so so jealous of people who have them
November 11, 2025 at 2:33 PM
It's an interesting discussion point, I think.

Should you mark a game down for stuff like that? Or just mention it? If you do mark it down, by how much "should" you?

If ARC was less popular than it is, I don't think this review would have got as much attention...

I'll also bring you a little fake moustache for this look

Likewise.

Let's make sure Gee is topped up
