When I taught World Literature classes, I included the novel When the Emperor Was Divine about the internment camps. Before reading, each student had to research some aspect of the background, and I am hoping what they learned has stayed with them.

I've read and/or taught many of those! To Kill a Mockingbird, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and The Hiding Place are definitely high on my list. I was just thinking about ATGIB this AM

I'm reading it right now, and it so aptly describes a group of women I've been friends with for years. Recently I've needed a little space because it's too painful to attempt to engage them in any thoughtful discussion without getting assailed :(
