I wonder if Matteo would host an event supporting the other side of the debate on another night…

Maybe I’m just getting old, but I don’t see a problem with Matteo hosting this event. It’s perfectly fine to not like what they stand for without thinking they should be effectively banned from meeting at community spots. Different issue if Matteo is donating all the food, making a contribution etc.

The half-mile circle from the Zoo drive stop stretches into the block north of Upas, which is right on the edge of the circle for the stop near University. I think it picks up at least a few parcels.

There is a single block of bus only lane on 4th Ave between Broadway and E St. Also on 11th Ave going north from Broadway to the 163. But I doubt SB 79 changes downtown zoning.

I think you’re missing some bus stops in San Diego, there are three streets with dedicated bus lanes and frequent routes. bsky.app/profile/mtbo...
SD’s potential SB79 glow up assuming these 215, 235, 7, & 10 stops qualify under § 21060.2(a)(1). FYI: I don't think the 225 meets peak frequency?

Zoning Updates
Smaller Circle: 65ft height limit, FAR 3, 100 units/acre
Bigger Circle: 55ft height limit, FAR 2.5, 80 units/acre

This is a question that will make a lot of difference in San Diego.

This seems right. There might be a bigger map if the standard is a major transit stop for a route that has any segment that travels in a dedicated bus-only lane. I think that might be the correct standard, but we’ll see. It might take some lawsuits
October 13, 2025 at 3:04 AM
There are dedicated lanes on Park, ECB, University, the rapid route on the 15…
October 10, 2025 at 7:50 PM
It’s not entirely clear whether the bus route needs full dedicated lanes for the entire route, or only a dedicated lane somewhere along the route. But HCD said to count a stop if the stop itself is adjacent to a dedicated bus lane (p. 9): www.hcd.ca.gov/sites/defaul...

Tier 2 includes bus service meeting the standards of PRC 21060.2(a)(1). That specific subdivision says the bus line must have full-time dedicated bus lanes or operation in a separate ROW plus better than 15 minute service intervals.
October 10, 2025 at 7:50 PM
I think these maps are missing some bus stops
October 10, 2025 at 6:03 PM
So…have you tried to map it yet in SD?
October 10, 2025 at 5:29 PM
This is what HCD said is the safe way to interpret it in a different context: if there is a bus-only lane at the stop, it counts. (See p. 9) www.hcd.ca.gov/sites/defaul...

October 1, 2025 at 12:27 AM
Adding a new rule that might change this: HCD has recommended the test should be in the stop itself is adjacent to a dedicated bus lane. That might cut some of these stops out. www.hcd.ca.gov/sites/defaul...

Still lots of uncertainty, I’m not certain about this at all. This is the expansive interpretation
September 18, 2025 at 12:35 AM
There is some ambiguity and this will probably go to court. But HCD has said it should count if the stop itself is adjacent to a dedicated bus lane even if it’s not continuous. www.hcd.ca.gov/sites/defaul...

SB 79 itself only refers to (a)(1) of that statute. Not all of it.
September 18, 2025 at 12:07 AM
What part of SB79 requires all door boarding?
September 17, 2025 at 11:59 PM
I should add a caveat: the interpretation of SB79 is still not clear and there are a lot of exceptions. But I think this is a fair reading.
September 17, 2025 at 11:36 PM
Based on existing zoning, this mainly would affect areas south of University to about Upas, which are largely single family.
