sadly, that was precisely what it was originally about. when i was a kid we still had a lot of WW1 survivors living in town. it was a proper memorial to all of their friends that died in the meat grinder. somber is not a sufficiently strong word.

And with soldiers returning so traumatised they could not speak of their experiences. 😔 So there was this mythology based around bravery and honour, apt for those who served, but it deliberately occluded the sheer brutality, constant fear and loss of it all.

If only Remembrance Day served to remind people how futile war is, one wouldn’t mind the wreath laying, but it makes no difference. Those with a blood lust quite happily continue to order the spilling of the blood of millions. 🤮
