Interested in #tree mortality and remote sensing🛰️?

In our new study led by Felix Schiefer we map standing deadwood in Germany with 10 m resolution.

Tree mortality appears to be greater than previously expected.

❌ La introducción del bisonte europeo en España es un caso que sobrepasa el concepto de "renaturalización".

Personal científico de 25 instituciones diferentes reflexiona sobre ello en un nuevo estudio y desaconseja totalmente su introducción en la Península.

I remember the same debate when I was a student at #ETSIMontes #UPM and the Bologna Process was going to be implemented in the following years. I never thought that eliminating Math classes would be a good idea
A few years back, my college voted to lift the calculus requirement in our majors. A few of us (remarkably all international women faculty) voted against but we were the minority. The explicit justification was the same as the cartoonist's: that our students would never use it. 1. What BS. Calculus
Teachers don't have time machines to tell what every student will find useful in the future - as though life is some process that ends in a fixed, easily-determined outcome and a teacher's goal is merely to teach things that lead up to that future for every child

We have a new paper out in @science.org today, led by Helge Goessling from #AWI:

The recent global temperature surge in 2023 was intensified by a record-low planetary #albedo

This is what we found (🧵1/8)
Recent global temperature surge intensified by record-low planetary albedo
In 2023, the global mean temperature soared to almost 1.5K above the pre-industrial level, surpassing the previous record by about 0.17K. Previous best-guess estimates of known drivers including anthr...
