A few months ago @thelocal.to got a promising pitch from a writer with bylines in whole bunch of reputable publications—The Cut, The Guardian, Dwell, Architectural Digest, etc. Then I started investigating. Here's a story about fabulists in journalism's AI slop era. thelocal.to/investigatin...
Investigating a Possible Scammer in Journalism’s AI Era | The Local
A suspicious pitch from a freelancer led editor Nicholas Hune-Brown to dig into their past work. By the end, four publications, including The Guardian and Dwell, had removed articles from their sites.

heads up to anyone who holds trans kids near: amy harmon from the nyt is searching for and having a hard time finding people to interview to find out exactly what trans kids are doing when their care is limited or cut off, and for purposes of community safety, please shut the fuck up around her.

Even if this were true, should the "paper of record" be publishing ironic puff pieces? And if you have to implicitly scold "Bluesky" for not recognizing it as such, is it accomplishing the goal of...what, exactly, being a smartass in on a joke that we're not? Just what we need more of in journalism.
The Nuzzi piece is an excellent realtime test of whether Bluesky can recognise an ironic writing style.

Yeah we're the San Francisco Californians!

Root root for the New York New Yorkers!

Go, Philadelphia Pennsylvanians!

Texans is not a mascot, it's just a person. Basic-ass state.

Saw "One Battle After Another." (Very light spoilers follow.)

It deserves the raves and left me ponderin' all night. But this morning what came racing into my brain were the very last lines of the movie -- and how prescient they might very well become. #oakland

Oh wow you double the garlic? In *every* recipe? Incredible. No, no I've never heard that before, that's so cool and interesting and totally new. You must really love garlic, you rebel.

@sfgate.com When the headline writer doesn't read to the end of the story.

"This brewery only makes one beer"

"the taproom has given Larson and his team more room to experiment with other smaller-batch beers"

This Berkeley brewery only makes one beer. And it's winning everything.
The only beer packaged and released in its history is also "the most awarded pilsner beer in the world."

One of the tiny joys in my life is knowing that I have never contributed a single cent to the yacht fund for one of the world's most pernicious bigots. No books, no movies, no theme parks, nothing. I saw the first movie via a borrowed DVD 20+ years ago. That's it. Fuck you, JK Rowling.
