And here's why you should just give money.
1. The food bank knows what they need and can buy it.
2. Money can be used any time; if they don't need it right now, they can use it when donations are low.
3. Food banks tend to have deals with suppliers, which translates to more goods for their money.

Tis the season for helpful posts about what food shelves need so here's my advice:
If your kid's school is doing a Canned Food Drive or a movie theater is doing a special movie screening with a can of food in lieu of admission: give a can.
Otherwise: JUST GIVE MONEY.
