I would always rather lower numbers with more interactions than more followers who don't interact at all.

i honestly think wonder shows that nintendo listened to criticism of its 2d mario and put it on the back burner for awhile while they created something new and innovative. it's weird cause some franchises basically never go stale, but 2d mario did. this is exactly what mario needs right now imo.

I think this kinda leads to a misconception about how Doki Doki Panic was just some failed Famicom game they tried to give another chance to. Nintendo *literally wouldn't be able to rerelease it* unless given permission by Fuji TV.
This would also explain why the game has never been rereleased.

I don't know if there's any evidence of this anywhere besides the Yume Kojo event and the third party credit, but it would explain a lot.
If they wanted to release this game outside of Japan, it would need to be retooled to not utilize Fuji TV's characters. The logical action is to put Mario on it.

The credits of Doki Doki Panic list two character designers: Tadashi Sugiyama and "Fuji TV."
Now, based on what I've heard above, I think a logical conclusion can be made about Doki Doki Panic: I don't think Nintendo owns the main characters of Doki Doki Panic!

Because of this, Doki Doki Panic never received a cartridge release, but instead as a floppy for the FDS.
The main characters Papa, Mama, Lina, Imajin, Poki, and Piki were all created by Fuji TV and used in the event.

Family Basic V3 came with some prebuilt games you could use as inspiration. Of note are "Drill Tank" which uses some Koopa sprites, and "Mario World", a very basic Lode Runner clone where you have to collect numbers in order while avoiding Sidesteppers.

You can actually see some of these sprites in action in this lovely video Masahiro Sakurai uploaded to his channel.
