Per Fiona Kumari Campbell: "Ableist systems involve the differentiation,
ranking, negation, notification and prioritization of sentient life." (Campbell 2017, 287 – 288).

See Valley obsessions with IQ, eugenics, colonial impulses, surveillance capitalism-- the whole TESCREAL stack etc.
I love this show so much. One of the major reasons is its not afraid to avoid dialogue whenever possible. The silences are luxurious.
Dark Winds has gone from strength to strength and takes on aspects of even grittier noir and even the metaphysical in a rough and tumble season 3 that is both intense and rollicking and emotional. Really first rate writing, acting, direction. Highly recommended.

A woman in Saskatchewan needs surgery for a parathyroid issue and is being offered MAiD instead.

There’s no one in the province who can perform the procedure and the government won’t pay to send her elsewhere.

This is why disability advocates warn about assisted dying

Thing is, it isn't inaccurate. Or wrong. It's bullshit in the technical sense. Media might be wrong, or stories might be structured for an agenda or a narrative.

LLMs and their designers don't have the same agenda as media, and conflating or suggesting they are similar is also an error.
There’s this idea that I’ve been pondering for a bit that’s probably yet another Everyone Will Yell At Me thing, but… I don’t think that pointing out that AI is full of inaccuracies is an effective tactic at getting people not to use it. It’s based on cultural context that not everyone shares…

really gotta hand it to the rationalist community: they've given me a whole vocabulary of jargon where I now know, if I see it in the wild, I should entirely disregard the speaker

What a time to have just watched Succession
Jared Kushner's involvement was "not mentioned in Paramount's press release on Monday morning about its $108 billion bid, nor were participating sovereign wealth funds from Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Qatar."

fancy that
Jared Kushner is part of Paramount's hostile bid for Warner Bros. Discovery
Paramount is telling WBD shareholders that it has a smoother path to regulatory approval than does Netflix.

Because the media and political classes are basically indistinguishable here, and have been for centuries. You average person doesn't give a shit and is live and let live, but because most media is anti-trans? Overton window style shifts occur.
How is Britain so consistently batshit about gender

Rewatching scenes from Godzilla 1998 and while pretty much everything that could be said about this movie has been said, the concept of a kaiju who can crouch low to the ground to stare at you, intimidate you, etc. has some pretty strong horror potential.

And like… the fucked up thing is, some people *will* want to be a boot, fully not understanding that a) it's fucked up to want to be the boot, & b) they're only going to be useful to these people as long as they're *Useful To These People.* And "Useful" can mean lots things; scapegoats are "useful"…

Feels familiar, no?

No surprise.

"The figure includes between five and ten thousand children. Euthanasia would kill mostly non-Jews but initiate and make routine the practice of targeting Jews for death. At least one child was euthanized even during the Allied occupation."
"We should collectively want to understand the euthanasia program that enabled so many ordinary German workers and doctors to kill so many. For far too long, we’ve barely looked—especially now, in the wake of historic antisemitism."

I strongly second this rec:
You could get all seven seasons of Legends of Tomorrow on Blu-ray for $60 (or $51 with coupon if this is your first order from Gruv, Warner's online store!) The first season is a bit rough but if you make it through there is a wild, fun, and very queer ensemble superhero adventure awaiting you!

Like Sir Terry Pratchett once said, "Too many people want to have written."

And i get that want sometimes; i really do. I am so tired so often.

But the time & care of expressing a thought & 🤞🏾 being understood & understanding my thoughts & my self in the process? I actually love that shit.
This reveals such a profound difference in values between [most] artists and [most] "AI" enthusiasts. Walk with me. 🧵
