And that’s a wrap. My first year as a deputy done. Two Ofsteds (a faith school) and a writing moderation (Y6 teaching deputy). Talk about being thrown into deep water! I’ve learned loads and I feel truly blessed to work in such wonderful school with a head who is all about authenticity not show 🥳

This is minor in terms of reducing admin for teachers.

There are still schools that:

- do full lesson observations
- require marking in books ‘every two weeks’ with ‘red ink on every page’
- have overly prescriptive lesson planning formats

Perhaps focus on those?

I can’t understand why. Why do some school leaders apply ridiculous pressure and set demands so high staff can’t cope? High standards are extremely important but you won’t achieve a sustained improvement by letting your staff burn out. Appreciate and invest in your people. They thrive- all thrives.

I can honestly say that I have never worked in a better school that I am at the moment. It’s just so… normal. Feels good to say NO to doing things that are not beneficial to the children and staff. Allowing staff to be creative and trusting them.
Loved getting rid of the LOs. Waste of lesson time 🙂
