Social justice. Trail running. Bit of broadcasting. Always hopeful.
Writing in today’s Scotland on Scotland I reflect on the UK Government’s budget this week.

Without doubt, scrapping the two child limit was the right thing to do. A hard fought win for campaigners.

The fight continues to enable all of us to afford every day essentials ⬇️👀

Today was about hope. Hope for a better Scotland where all of us have enough to flourish. To stand beside friends and colleagues and demand this loudly was a complete joy.

Today’s the day! Busing it up from the Borders. We’ll be at Parliament at 10am to march with 1000s of others.

Scotland Demands Better.

See you there?

June Jordan writes ‘We are the ones we have been waiting for’. Undoubtedly responsibility lies with Governments, but we can all do something. You can read my thought in full below ⬇️

It was my turn this morning on BBC Radio Scotland to bring ‘Thought for the Day’.

We are on the precipice of the greatest avoidable human tragedy of our lifetimes. All of our actions matter.

The UK Govts welfare proposals will have a catastrophic impact on sick and disabled people if they go ahead. The impact for people in Scotland will be devastating.

These reforms are not the solutions we need. They must be halted #WeDemandBetter

So far 9 Scotland MPs are part of the 108 Labour MPs putting forward an amendment to halt the disability cuts.

For any MPs unclear of the impact this will have on people in Scotland, read this briefing and understand the harm it will cause

This powerful film was made by @savechildrenuk.bsky.social 10 years ago. This and worse is the lived reality of children in Gaza right now.

The scale of suffering children are forced to endure as a result of the war is abhorrent. We cannot stay silent.

With all eyes on the spending review, the UK Govt confirm they continue to move ahead with welfare reforms.

In complete contrast to what the Secretary of State says in this letter to ‘help people in the best possible way’ these will only cause debt, destitution and despair #TakingThePip

We need to hold onto hope that the situation in Gaza can and will change. You can have a read below ⬇️

Amidst the by-election results noise, it was my turn this morning for BBC Radio Scotlands Thought for the Day. I chose to speak about abhorrent situation in Gaza as half a million people’s lives are at risk due to starvation.

An unexpected joy to come across the pipe band on this evenings walk - sound on.

What would it take to redistribute wealth? To guarantee we could all have enough? In the UK, a small 2% wealth tax on assets worth more than £10 million could raise more than £24 billion. Feels like somewhere to start. Have a read below ⬇️

Early start for BBC Radio Scotlands ‘Thought for the Day’. Though its way less of a chore to get up to that sunshine.

The weather made me think about the juxtaposition between scarcity & abundance that’s all too visible in our world. Such a small few have so much. The chasm of inequality palpable.

Let’s be honest about what the welfare cuts are going to mean - hunger, hardship and harm.

It doesn’t have to be this way. There are different choices to be made built around compassion and justice. The UK is a wealthy nation, we can do so much better

At the weekend I spoke to BBC Scotland about the staggering levels of energy debt and it’s impacts in remote & rural communities.

Our energy markets are broken. The time for sticking plasters is long overdue. We need to tackle energy debt through introducing a social tariff & make energy affordable
