i skimmed through most of the book this weekend and it's so fascinatingly bad
(1) basically she backed away from claiming *direct* intervention in the industry, going with a general "political uncertainty led toward less liberal films." but her argument rests on "it's a wonderful life" being leftist

I think you'd make some version of the first argument, but the blacklist as a practice was quite different and more subversive than "caving to government pressure" (it wasnt even the gov!). The second argument on Christmas films is genuinely insane and stupid.
