To be clear, it's not just the Team Hivemind, but also the things I see folks saying with their whole chest, where it's clear they weren't paying attention. Some pure, "They literally told you the opposite in the scene, where are you getting this?" stuff.
I’m astounded by the number of PLURIBUS watchers who are STILL Team Hivemind after the latest episode.

What's deeply stupid about this is it's no different, in terms of results, than just hiring an actor to play George Washington. Like, there's no effects here, it's just a Old Gym Bro with Revolution-era hair.
Oh good, Glenn Beck has created an AI George Washington. You will be shocked to learn that the AI George Washington created by Glenn Beck sounds exactly like what would happen if Glenn Beck built an AI George Washington to sound exactly like Glenn Beck.

There’s a monologue at the beginning of YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS where Jon Hamm’s character talks about how expectations came with every raise, and thus him and everyone they know spends absurd amounts on “lifestyle” to still be living check to check.
Scalzi had a recent post up about the people making $500k/year who are still living paycheck to paycheck, in large part because of this phenomenon: wanting to emulate a level of affluence and therefore "success" that is similar to the folks making $1M, 10M, 100M+ whatever.scalzi.com/2025/11/28/p...
Poor Little Rich People
The YouTube video above fascinates me, because it details how people making $500,000 a year — economically fortunate by any sane measure — are still frequently living paycheck to payche…

What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

In the summer of ‘88, I had a job where I installed cell phones into cars. No one has needed that skill in over 30 years.
What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

When I was a security guard 40+ years ago, a number of posts had manual elevators. I got very good at getting the elevator to line up perfectly with the floor at which I wanted to exist.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel, Disney Animated or Pixar.

You ever notice how on Star Trek when they talk about the 21st Century, it’s mostly just saying “oh, yeah, those were some BAD years. We didn’t even keep good records. Those years sucked.

WELL HERE WE ARE.
I harp on about this, but here in the 21st century we have the arrogance & gall to call the period of western civilisation between the 5th & 10th century 'the Dark Ages'...

History is NOT going to be kind on us in centuries to come.
It's just insane that no pilot thought of this route before AI brilliantly came up with it!!!!!!!!

This was literally a joke in COBRA KAI that Johnny was being an idiot insisting the plane “fly straight” to get there faster.

The most realistic scene in DS9 is when Gul Dukat whined about how the Bajorans never erected a statue in his honor. A prophetic text.

I used to have TMP on a VHS tape, and let me tell you, as much as I enjoyed it, every time I watched it, I employed the fast forward button LIBERALLY.

Look, I'm sure the ship looked gorgeous on the big screen in 1979, but there was no need for it to be a six-minute shot.

Listen, I don't mean to brag, but every once in a while I'll hear about some Hot New Restaurant in Austin, go look at their menu on their website and think, "I can do better."

I say this as someone who greatly enjoys all three of these things: We need to start making new things, people. This is too much nostalgic auto-fellatio.

I referred to a potential future project as “cozy” and got some side-eye and pushback until I said “mostly what I mean is no one is using stabbing as a problem-solving strategy.”
Thread, as Seanan talks about a book, and its context in the cozy horror genre.
The cozy genres have had an understandable boom in the last five years; people are bruised and traumatized, even if they don't fully admit it in words, and they want books they can sink into like feather duvets. This is great! It's also complicated, because when anything grows fast, confusion...
