"...Newsom has vetoed our menopause bill, not one but two years in a row. But that's OK, because he's not going to be governor forever. And with the way he's overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be our next president either."

Trump posts again about Democrats, saying their behavior is “punishable by DEATH!”

i appreciate the sentiment he’s trying to convey, but it doesn’t change the fact that this lands like a massive failure of imagination.

i can *definitely* think of worse music to fuck to, without even really trying.

This, this is the most powerful dynamic in storytelling. I don’t know why we decided contemporary literature should erase this.

There’s actually nothing more impactful than the feeling that someone is taking the time to tell you a story in their own unique way that can’t be replicated, not because it’s perfect and objective, but precisely because it is not those things.

worth applying to politics as well. when you're criticizing an action people take "taking the better action next time" is only one of the alternatives people will consider, and worth remembering that "not bothering at all" is another.
I think about this a lot.

Your daily reminder that Andor, despite being part of the silly universe that is the Star Wars franchise, is actually both incredible and important.
"We spent six years thinking about a fascist takeover of a galaxy far, far away. Six years thinking about ordinary beings as an authoritarian regime comes in for the kill. Many people saw parallels between Andor and the real world. I see them as well, particularly in the events of the last week."

This thing where we’re already trying to paint Biden as good has got to stop. Biden was a disaster of a president, who had the lowest possible bar to hop over and tripped. Any president so bad they give Trump a round 2, doesn’t need flowers, they need to be buried as the failure that they were.

It’s really unfortunate that reform Jews in the US decided to insert Zionism as a substitute for religious dogma. The one thing that I love about reform Judaism is that everything can be argued endlessly, so Israeli policies being off limits was always bizarre.

TTRPG fan but have trouble staying engaged before it’s your turn again? Strongly recommend Daggerheart. I can take or leave Critical Role, but it’s a fantastic system that just lets people do cool things. Think it’d be great for new players, but requires a strong DM.

the way Stephen King rhapsodizes about how rootbeer used to taste? this is how I feel about the sensation of privacy. 'Privacy' is the singular flavor of my youth that I mourn most regularly, that I am most nostalgic for, that I so wish children today could experience
Anyway, seems pretty disastrous in general how there is no privacy in public spaces and anything you do outside your house is free fodder for internet "content"
