This policy impacts the people most sidelined in the modern economy. Fighting for a few people who are being made to suffer is worthwhile. Many policies that impact 1% of the population each year are recognized as important: abortion, cancer diagnosis, people displaced by natural disasters, etc.

That £11.44 was the value until the end of March then automatically increased for April to £12.21 is partially my point. The fact that the US minimum wage hasn't updated since 2009 is a problem. In a federal system there can be a lot of focus on the national rules to level the playing field.

This might be a bit too far outside your wheelhouse unfortunately. The federal minimum wage only applies to about 1% of US workers and hasn't been increased in more than 16 years. If it had been pegged to CPI it would be almost $11 now. From 1975 would be $13. The UK NLW of £11.44 is $15.18
