My working logic is this focuses the mind of the child onto the parts which will be developed further because they hold key value to the enquiry question at hand.

Interested in thoughts, perspectives, questions etc to probe my thinking further.

Currently, I'm working on advancing through this important aspect with careful teacher narration and a principle that sometimes the history makes us go 'ah' or 'smile' then we can spend more time on the bits that make us think 'wow, that's important' in line with enquiries

It's designed to function a bit like a story map where the teacher leads the children along the narrative arc deliberately. Then, pauses to enable reflection and connect specific events to the enquiry question at hand.

It provides opportunities for discussion, debate etc
