having done that campaign, we were all geniuses of course, yes, but also hugely helped by an opponent who had not spent decades in national media as “successful businessman” (and economy-knower) and who could be more plausibly portrayed in his words as anti-worker pro-cutting jobs

Watergate maybe sui generis but the economic thread for the rest seems pretty heavily the victory of supply side economics under Reagan; meanwhile the general Republican anti-government rejection of expertise/authority in the other emergent crises

I can shoot someone and call it a “workaround” or an “unconventional strategy to challenge” the law against killing people but… it’s still attempted murder even if we have to wait for a court to rule
